Shetland Breed Study Update

FIbre Colours: White, creams, tans, brown, all shades of grey, & black. Im spinning up a pretty dark brown.

Feel in hand: Soft but not cloud soft..

Fibre prep: Just spinning the braid as it comes but not spinning it too thin.

Smell: Bit more stronger sheep fleece smell, but not overbearing.

Fibre uses: From sweaters to rope! fine medium fleece make exceptional sweaters.

Historical Facts: Originated in Scotland. Shetland are a Conservation breed. They have lived on the Shetland Islands for well over 1000 years. They likely decended from the Scandinavian sheep and is one of the smallest British sheep breeds.

Next to skin feel: Hairy under my neck but not annoying at all.

Fibre Lustor: Its deep in colour and the same lustor that the Icelandic fibre has.

Staple length: 2" to 10"

Microns: 20 to 30

Shetland spun yarn details:
Spun on my Kromski Sonata - using the whorl size 10 to 1
I plyed from center pull ball
worsted (9 WPI)
31 meters
its a bit floofy has a nice spongey feel
Plying shows a definite pretty twist in the plyed yarn
A matte sheen but not overly bright sheen.
If I hold it near my face and neck I feel the slightest prickle feel but its not annoying or itchy.
Would I buy this fibre again.. Yes
Would I knit with it.. Yes but I wouldn't use it for baby knits I think beanies, socks, shawls, my neck is far too sensitive to knit a scarf with it.
