Devon Longwool
New Zealand / Arapawa
Fibre Colours: The natural colours I have no idea as I couldn't source any information for this fibre under the name New Zealand.
Feel in hand: lovely soft and crispy squishy feel.
Fibre prep: None. I'm just spinning all these fibres for the study from the braid in a short forward draft.
Smell: It has near to no sheep smell - just a clean dusty smell.
Fibre uses: Its soft enough to use on any knits I'm guessing and felting.
Historical facts: All I could find on this is what what written on the band that its a conservation breed and I think this is actually fibre from the Arapawa sheep found in the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand.
Next to skin feel: Lovely
Fibre Luster: Lovely soft brown matte colour.
Staple length: 3.5" to 4.5"
Microns: 30 to 32
New Zealand / Arapawa spun yarn details:
Spun on my Kromski Sonata - using the whorl size 10 to 1
I plyed from center pull ball
Worsted / DK (9-10 WPI)
29.7 meters
Plying shows a definite pretty twist in the plyed yarn
A pretty soft brown colour with a matte sheen.
Would I buy this fibre again.. Yes
Would I knit with it.. Yes its definitely soft when you squish it with your hands has only the tiniest scratch feel near my skin.
